New Delhi:  Airlines have asked passengers to report on time at airports till Saturday (28 January) to avoid delays because of strict security checks due to Republic Day.

“Check-in counter opens two hours before departure of each flight. Due to high security you may experience longer queues and congestion at security check points. Please allow sufficient time at the airport to complete check-in formalities. Passengers reporting after counter closure, which is 45 minutes before departure, will not be allowed to complete the check-in formalities,” Air India has told passengers.

These checks started on Monday, and will continue till Saturday. Republic Day falls on Thursday (26 January).

For international flights, Air India said, check-in counter opens three hours before departure of flight.

“Due to high security you may experience longer queues & congestion at security check points. Please allow sufficient time at the airport for completing check-in formalities. Passengers reporting after counter closure which is 60 minutes before departure will be not be allowed to complete the check-in formalities,” the airline said.

Vistara has asked its passengers to check arrival and departure times.

“The Delhi airspace will remain closed between 10.35-12.15 hours in January on 26th January because of the Republic Day celebrations. We request you to check our website as flight arrival and departure timing may be impacted,” Vistara said.

Because air space was restricted due to Indian Air Force exercises leading up to the Republic Day parade, several passengers have taken to social media criticizing airlines for boarding them on planes and keeping them inside it for as much as two hours knowing fully well that there would be a delayed take-off.
