The cheque books of State Bank of India’s (SBI) former associate banks will be valid till December 31 after the earlier deadline of September 30 was extended.
The country’s largest lender, in a tweet on Wednesday, said: “The validity of cheques of former Associate Banks has been extended till 31st December, 2017, by the RBI. Please apply for new SBI cheque book before 31st December, to avoid any inconvenience.”
Customers can apply for the new SBI cheque books at their home branches, all SBI ATMs or through Internet banking and Mobile Banking.
Earlier, SBI had alerted customers holding accounts in its subsidiary banks and the Bharatiya Mahila Bank to get new cheque books along with the India Financial System (IFS) codes.
On April 1 this year, SBI formalised the merger of Bharatiya Mahila Bank and its five associate banks – State Bank of Patiala, State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur, State Bank of Raipur, State Bank of Travancore and State Bank of Hyderabad – with itself.
Customers of the five banks will have to upgrade their cheque books.
Last month, SBI had stated that the old cheque books and IFS codes of these six banks will be invalid after September 30.
