New palm-sized Raspberry Pi 3 Model B computer now has onboard WiFi
Raspberry–maker of those fantastically useful, palm-sized Pi computers that are used in everything from DIY home improvement projects to teaching kids the basics of programming–has a new version , and it finally has on-board 802.11n wireless LAN and Bluetooth 4.1.
Until now, users needed to select from a range of readily available USB WiFi dongles that added wireless capabilities to this little computer.
Setup using this method generally involved a bit of know-how in installing the relevant drivers in Linux and configuring it accordingly. With WiFi capabilities now being integrated, it should make wireless networking on this platform that much simpler.
Especially for applications such as building a media server or controlling home security cameras, the inherent wireless capability will greatly aid in deploying such projects.
Other specifications of the new Pi 3 Model B largely carries over from its predecessor with its 1.2GHz 64-bit quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 processor, 1GB of RAM, HDMI output port, microSD card slot for installing a card with the operating system, 4 USB 2.0 ports etc.
This Lilliputian computer is priced the same as the existing Raspberry Pi 2–$35 (approx Rs 2,400).
