Tata Motors on Wednesday launched its much awaited compact sedan Tigor at an introductory price of Rs 4.7 lakh to Rs 7.09 lakh ex-showroom New Delhi.
Powered by a 1.2 litre petrol engine and 1.05 litre Diesel engine, Tigor is priced aggressively at Rs 65000 to Rs 83,000 lower than segment leader Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire and even Rs 20,000 lower than the hatchback Swift and Rs 58,000 lower than Maruti Baleno. Tata Motors has sweetly positioned Tigor in the heart of 60,000 to 1,00,000 units compact car market priced between Rs 4 lakh – Rs 9 lakh.
Launching the Tigor, Guenter Butschek, MD of Tata Motors said with the launch of Tigor the company has expanded the product portfolio and invite new customers and reinforce the comeback of Tata Motors in the passenger vehicle market.
Tigor boasts of features like LED Tail Lamp, projector headlamp, dual tone interiors, touchscreen Infotainment system, multi drive mode, fully automated climate control which are seen in the segment above with airbags and ABS packed on the higher variants.
The company would now position the existing Zest sub-4 metre sedan in the fleet market, which is a growing segment and eventually discontinue the Indigo CS, which created the sub-4 metre sedan segment.
The company has trained over 6000 sales consultants to cater to its new generation customers like Tiago, Hexa and now Tigor across 650 outlets and more than 500 service touch points. The company plans to add 200 sales touch points in FY-18.
The company is hoping for a positive rub off of Tiago on Tigor with the smaller sibling continuing to do about 4500-5000 units a month, with a waiting period of over a month.
Tigor is launched in a SUV-4 metre sedan market which is witnessing a decline due to new alternatives in the premium hatch and the small SUV space, the company is banking on its coupe like design to bring in new buyers and excite the segment.
