Skoda India is expected to launch its SUV, Skoda Kodiaq next month in India. The launch will help Skoda’s drive to get a stronger foothold in the Indian auto market.
The seven seater model will be based on Skoda’s MQB platform, as per a report in Financial Express. The same platform is used in Skoda’s Superb and Octavia, as well as in Volkswagen and Audi Q7.
On the engine front, the model will have 2.0 litre diesel engine similar to Volkswagen’s Tiguan. The engine will produce 147 bhp of power at 300NM torque. It will also have a six-speed gearbox and seven speed DSG automatic transmission. According to The Overdrive, the company may introduce a petrol variant with either 180PS 1.8-litre TSI or 180PS 2.0-litre TSI engine.
Its exterior will have projector head lamps with LED DRLs (daytime running lights) and chrome finished front grille. Other features will include panoramic sunroof, body-coloured roof, and side body cladding.
The interior of the SUV will have steering mounted controls, automatic air conditioner, Google Earth app along with a touch screen infotainment system that is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The 270-litre boot space can be increased up to 2065 litres by folding down all seats in the rear rows. In terms of safety, the model will get ABS and dual air bags in the standard version, the higher variants get up to six air bags.
The model which is expected to be priced around Rs 30 lakh could be a competition for SUVs like Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour.
