NEW DELHI: Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari on Thursday floated the idea of rewarding citizens (up to Rs 200), who would send photos of vehicles parked on roads to the enforcement agencies. Stating that it was his personal view, Gadkari said any such drastic move can be taken only after putting in place necessary infrastructure such as proper parking space.
Sharing the concern of urban development minister M Venkaiah Naidu of how roads are increasingly becoming parking lots, Gadkari said he agrees “in-principle” with his Cabinet colleague of making parking space a precondition for registration of new vehicles in citie
This is not the first time when Gadkari has talked about incentivizing informers. At a conference in Nagpur last week, he had said the Centre is preparing a new policy to increase the penalty on illegal parking from Rs 200 to Rs 1,000 and reward the complainants.
