COIMBATORE: Buoyed by the strong increase in sales, Repose Mattress, a leading spring mattresses maker, is expanding its manufacturing unit near the city and would be foraying into Maharashtra and Goa markets. The company would be able to produce 1 lakh mattress per year once the expansion at its Arasur unit is completed. It now has a production capacity of 90000 mattress per year.
“Spring mattresses are gaining popularity in the Indian market. The popularity of the spring-based sleeping system is due to its ability to adapt to body contours and maintain correct spinal position while we sleep,” said Balachandar S, CEO, Repose Mattress.
The spring mattress category is estimated to generate sales of around Rs. 1800 crore per year and is growing at an average rate of 30% every year. “The growth in mattress market has been largely led by domestic factors such as increased income levels, and also due to infrastructural developments in terms of increased number of residential units and hotels in the country,” senior Repose officials said.
Repose plans to open 45 ‘Sleep Stations’, its exclusive showrooms, across the five southern states in addition to the already existing 30 ‘Sleep Stations’. The company also has 880 dealers across South India. It would open 20 ‘Sleep Stations’ in Tamil Nadu in addition to the existing five. While luxury mattresses were initially contributing to 10% of our overall sales, it now accounts for 35%.
