Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2017 Delegation Receives Overwhelming Response in Japan and South Korea

As part of the preparations of VGGS 2017, a delegation from Gujarat representing the Government, organized Vibrant Gujarat roadshows in Tokyo, Osaka and Seoul

Focus sectors of the delegation were:
Japan – Automobiles and Auto Components, Electronics, Chemicals and Petrochemicals, Pharmaceuticals, Ports & Maritime, Banking and Finance Services, Industrial Townships and Infrastructure, Education, Construction and Urban and Rural Development and Tourism
South Korea – Automobiles and Auto Components, Electronics, Heavy Machinery, Chemical and Petrochemicals, Ports & Maritime, Shipbuilding, Healthcare and Education
As part of the international outreach programme for the 8th edition of Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2017, a high-level delegation led by Mr. Manoj Kumar Das, IAS, Principal Secretary, Food, Civil Supply and Consumer Affairs Department, Government of Gujarat visited Tokyo and Osaka in Japan from 17th – 19th September, 2016 and Seoul in South Korea from 20th – 21st September, 2016. The aim of the visit was to further strengthen the Gujarat as an investment destination and facilitate meetings with prominent businessmen in Japan and South Korea to discuss the potential of investments in the countries.
As Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit has seen a transformation from an investment exercise to India’s largest growth propelling event, the State Government has put significant impetus on inclusive and sustainable growth. In order to achieve this, the delegation spoke about the strengths of Gujarat, showcased the investment opportunities across various sectors which include Automobiles and Auto Components, Electronics, Chemicals and Petrochemicals, Pharmaceuticals, Ports & Maritime, Banking and Finance Services, Industrial Townships and Infrastructure, Education, Construction and Urban and Rural Development and Tourism and invited the participants to the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2017.
The roadshows in Tokyo, Osaka and Seoul received an overwhelming response of more than 70 companies for each leg of the roadshow, engaging with a total of 220 plus businessmen representing top companies in Japan and South Korea.
Speaking on the success of the visit, leader of the delegation by Mr. Manoj Kumar Das, IAS, Principal Secretary, Food, Civil Supply and Consumer Affairs Department, Government of Gujarat, said “Our visit to the two countries, Japan and South Korea was extremely fruitful. The two countries do share a deep understanding of Gujarat and there is a great mutual interest in trade and economic development between both the parties. We have received an encouraging response from several companies who have expressed intent to invest in Gujarat in the field of automobiles, chemicals, logistics, to name a few. There is increasing awareness on both sides of growing business opportunities, and therefore we expect to have a significant participation from both the countries during the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2017.”
In Japan, the Government of Gujarat organized roadshows hosted with the help of JETRO in Tokyo and Osaka where Mr. Manoj Kumar Das, the Delegation Leader presented investment opportunities in Gujarat to over 150 representatives from the business community. Mr. Amit Kumar, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of India in Tokyo. Japan along with Mr. Dai Ueda, Director General, Business development Support Department, JETRO commenced the day’s proceedings.
A series of one-to-one meetings with the CEO’s and top management of companies such Sojitz Corporation, Kanagawa Prefecture Government, International Business Incubation Center, Inc. (IBIC), Developer Group Pte Ltd., Matsuda & Partners, KPMG Japan, Hotel Management International Co. Ltd. (HMI Hotel Group), Mizuho Bank Ltd., Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, Ltd. including large conglomerates in the sector of chemicals, FMCG and auto components.
After a productive two days in Tokyo, the delegation visited the city of Osaka. Mr. T. Armstrong Changsan, Consul General of India, Osaka-Kobe presided over the roadshow giving the business community in Osaka a political and economic and the strong convergence of opportunities between Gujarat and Japan. He spoke greatly of the various opportunities for Japanese companies and cited the approach of the Government of Gujarat as a model for other states and countries to follow.
The delegation also met with Nihon Technology, Osaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (OCCI) including a large conglomerate in the chemicals sector.
In South Korea, the Government of Gujarat along with the Indian the Indian Chamber of Commerce in Korea (ICCK) organized a roadshow in Seoul, where the delegation addressed over 75 members from the business community.
H.E. Mr. Vikram Doraiswami, Ambassador, Embassy of India to the Republic of Korea graced the roadshow with his presence. He talked about the historical relations between India & South Korea and encouraged Korean companies to deeply consider strengthening trade ties with the state of Gujarat. Mr. Dilip Sundaram, Chairman, Indian Chamber of Commerce in Korea who was also present at the roadshow exclaimed that Gujarat is the best investment destination not only in India, but in the world.
The Vibrant Gujarat delegation also had series of over 20 one-to-one meetings with the CEO’s and the top management of companies such as Chungbuk Technopark, Namsu Aluminium Co. Ltd., Korab Global Co. Ltd., KSI Ltd., K.C. Tech Co., Ltd., CW-HYDRO Inc., Space Group Co., Ltd., Erae Automotive Systems Co., Ltd. and Ayurveda Yoga Culture Association of Korea.
As part of the visit, the delegation also visited the Samsung D’Light Center to witness the technological brilliance created by Samsung. This visit was followed by a tour to The Incheon Free Economic Zone (IFEZ) located in Incheon. The delegation saw great synergy and semblance to the smart city, Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT), a meticulously planned metropolis complete with gleaming towers, drinking water on tap, automated waste collection and a dedicated power supply planned by the Government of Gujarat.
