New Delhi, Delhi, India
mycity4kids, the largest content platform for mums, has announced the appointment of Shimona Shahi Rana as the Chief Content Officer to spearhead content expansion, curation and distribution. Shimona’s key responsibilities include leading an active base of Content Strategists, an editorial team across 9 cities, managing close to a 1000 Mommy Bloggers and forging partnerships with experts in various fields related to parenting and child care.
Vishal Gupta – Co-Founder & MD, mycity4kids said, “Unlike previous generations, when parenting knowledge flowed vertically from grandparents to parents, the flow is now much more horizontal, with peer group advice from other Mums and Experts playing a larger and more influential role. Our content platform facilitates this exchange of knowledge, thereby re-assuring every Mum that she is not alone in what she is going through. Being a Mum herself, Shimona understands this. Moreover, she brings in a global perspective and with her background in journalism, will help us expand our content and explore formats like video and multiple languages going forward.”
Talking about her appointment, Shimona said, “Having 2 small kids of my own, I can relate to the numerous challenges faced by parents, especially mothers who already have so much on their plate. There has been a serious lack of information available about parenting and interesting things to do with your children in India. It’s not that there is nothing interesting going on in your city, it’s just that you seldom find out about it.”
Mycity4kids’ current content strategy is threefold: 1) Encourage every Mum to blog and share her story for the benefit of the community. Mommy bloggers are what make our site. They are both our audience and our active contributors, and each of them has a story to tell. Mycity4kids makes it possible for them to tell their story so that the world can hear it. 2) Increase our pool of Experts in every parenting domain so as to provide mums with the best, most timely and accurate advice. 3) Search for the best the city has to offer for children and find ways to ensure that this information reaches the phone/computer of every mum/parent in their city.
Shimona’s strong editorial background has led to a boost in the expert and editorial content on the website. With popular articles like ‘25 Things You Should Do With Your Child in Your City Before They Turn 12’, ‘Pregnant and Worried About The Zika Virus? What Indian Women Need To Know’ and a staggering 250 blog entries to a recently held blogging contest, the “#WomanInMe”, few would doubt that her strategy is already working. Post her appointment 5 months ago, the website traffic has doubled, to 2.5Mn visitors every month, with 55% repeat traffic.
Shimona has completed her Masters in International Affairs from Columbia University, NY and has worked with some of the top media giants such as PBS-Nova ScienceNOW (NY) and NDTV 24 x 7. She has been associated with the United Nations as a Consultant in the Sustainable Energy Programme Team.
