Located to the north of central Chennai, this micro-market comprises areas such as, Ambattur, Avadi, Kolathur, Madhavaram, Tondiarpet and Thiruvottiyur. Ambattur traditionally has been an industrial hub, housing a number of small-scale units and manufacturing facilities. Major industries in this micro-market include textiles, chemicals, and auto ancillaries. A few IT and ITeS companies have also set up back-office operations or BPO units in this region. The areas in and around Ambattur are fairly well connected to other micro-markets in Chennai via the suburban rail as well as road. The upcoming phase I of the Metro Rail will have a few stations in this micro-market (Mannadi and Washermanpet). The micro-market faces a shortage of social infrastructure, as well as basic infrastructure (water supply, sewage and drainage systems). The upcoming supply is largely targeted towards the mid-income segment with nearly 65% units priced up toRs.50 lakh.
