Bhopal : Wednesday, February 13, 2019 : Water Resources Minister Hukum Singh Karada has told to ensure timely completion of the irrigation schemes in the state. He said that 100 percent implementation will be ensured on irrigation related issues and issues related to farmers in the manifesto. Karada was addressing a meeting of departmental officials in Bhopal today. Chief engineers from all over the state were present in the meeting. The Minister said that employees and officials who perform well and give quality work will be honoured and those who fail to perform will be punished.
Ensure timely completion of irrigation schemes in state
Karada instructed that the field officials should make sure to send the actual data of the irrigation area mandatorily by February 18 on the basis of Record of Rights. He also instructed the officials to make actual verification of the irrigation area. The Minister said that the irrigation committees formed in the state should be strengthened. He said that concrete efforts should be made to extend irrigation facilities to every field according to the manifesto.
Additional Chief Secretary Water Resources Department R.S. Julaniya said that in the state, the department has developed irrigation potential in 27 lakh 15 thousand hectare area in Rabi season, whereas in 2010-11 this irrigation capacity was about 9 lakh hectares. It was informed in the meeting that work is in progress in 30 large, 58 medium and 378 minor irrigation schemes in the state. The cost of irrigation schemes under construction is about Rs 40 thousand crore. The department has developed irrigation capacity in 10 lakh 50 thousand hectare area through Bundelkhand irrigation project. Reservoirs of the department and the area of irrigation capacity created by them was also discussed in the meeting.
Chief Engineer of Water Resources Department Rajiv Kumar Suklikar gave information on the inter-state irrigation projects and their issues in the meeting.
