To show its appreciation to its millions of app users in India, Baidu, Inc. (NASDAQ: BIDU) hosted its first ever Holi celebration on March 24th 2016 in Mumbai, India. The party featured celebrity guests, a target shooting contest and gift voucher giveaways of up to INR 2,000 on social media. Through this and other events in India, Baidu aims to strengthen cultural exchange with its local users and improve its products and services.
“I know about Holi through photos and videos, but actually celebrating it in India is a totally different and vibrant experience,” said Michelle Bugante, Global Marketing Manager at Baidu. “This highlights the importance of immersing in local culture, so we can better understand our users and keep improving our apps for them,” she said.
In addition to the offline party, Baidu India also held an online social campaign called #DUHoliWithStars, which called upon Baidu’s international users to show their love for DU Battery Saver, DU Speed Booster and MoboMarket by sharing a photo of their smartphone with one of Baidu’s apps installed.
This year’s Holi party represents Baidu’s latest effort to show its support for India’s burgeoning mobile ecosystem through stronger cultural ties. As a part of this goal, Baidu recently announced that its MoboMarket app store would be adding built-in support for up to six Indian languages. In addition to Hindi – which MoboMarket already supports – Bengali, Marathi, Tamil, Urdu and Telugu will be added. In doing so, Baidu aims to involve more people in India’s online community, and allow them to actively participate in the mobile ecosystem in their regional languages.
